IMG’s Anderson Coach celebrates their 80th Anniversary and takes delivery of the 500th Temsa TS 35

TS 35 motorcoach delivered in the US as they prepared to celebrate their 80th corporate anniversary.

It wasn’t just a bus line started on the first day of school in 1937. O.D. Anderson had driven his first group of children to a one room school in Mercer, PA, when he decided to introduce himself to their teacher and confirm the dismissal time.

The beautiful young woman’s name was Dorotha “Dot” Elder and she became both his lifelong love and his partner in what has become Anderson Coach and Travel (GoAnderson.com ).

By 1948, the business expanded and the Andersons moved both their family and the business to its present location in Greenville, and then purchased their first motorcoach, a 1948 GMC. Over the next several years, the Andersons dabbled in a variety of ventures but decided it was buses they loved. In 1957, O.D. and Dorotha committed themselves totally to the bus company.

It proved a wise choice. The company currently employs nearly 300 associates and operates 42 motorcoaches, 150 school buses and a fleet of vans and passenger cars. They provide clients in northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania with charter coach service, individual tours and group packages. Anderson’s offerings range from one-day getaways to a month-long excursion to Alaska via Canada every few years … and they still transport children for two local school districts.

As the business grew, O.D. continued to be active behind the wheel, logging 4 million miles on the road before he passed away in 1990. Decades later, people still fondly remember childhood trips with O.D. as their school bus driver. Dorotha passed away in 2013 – working in the office until into her 90s – but the couple’s influence is still felt in their business and community. The family foundation has set up scholarships in Dorotha’s name, helping young people further their education.

Today, the company thrives under the leadership of President Doug Anderson, and Vice President Sue Anderson Nicklin, O.D. and Dot’s children, with a third generation already involved in the growing company.

Anderson’s growth has not come at the expense of quality. They were named International Motor Coach Group’s “Operator of the Year” in 2011 and earned the prestigious 2016 International Motorcoach Group Safety Award.

Tony Mongiovi, NE Vice President of Sales and Service for CH Bus Sales, Temsa’s exclusive North American Distributor, said “We’re proud to have a distinguished operator like Anderson operate our coaches. CH has now delivered more 500 TS35’s in the US since starting 2010. I don’t know of any modern motorcoach model that has reached this milestone so quickly… and it’s fitting that it go to Anderson.”

“From the beginning we’ve tried to be selective in who we sold to. We targeted quality operators, because we are building for the future” pointed out Mongiovi. “Anderson is a perfect example. They run a first rate, and very diverse, company. Like Temsa… they’re here for the long haul. We are delighted to be part of their team.”

The 500th TS35 is a 40 passenger luxury coach that sports a stunning metallic black graphics package. Powered by a Cummins 345 HP ISL engine driving through an Allison B500 6 speed transmission, it’s equipped with 110V outlets, USB ports, an REI Elite Entertainment system with 15” monitors and a woodgrain rubber floor. Like all Temsa’s delivered in the US, it has a stainless steel monocoque frame, ample underfloor luggage space and the latest in safety technology.

According to Anderson’s President Doug Anderson, “We have been very pleased with the customer satisfaction, performance and size of the 35 ft. Temsa. With the demise of the 47 passenger coach, we began shopping for an alternative to fill the midsized vehicle need, because there continues to be demand from customers for a coach appropriate for smaller groups.”

“After trying other products, (and actually distributing one) we purchased our first Temsa and we’re not looking back. In fact, we are looking forward to working with the Temsa product and CH Bus Sales for many years to come. I’m glad that Temsa filled the market segment other manufacturers were not addressing with a product that is priced right and delivers reliable service.”
